Celia Jay, Visual Artist

Celia Jay is a painter based in Macmasters Beach, whose work explores the deep emotional connection between nature, the human form, and self. Specialising in acrylics Celia paints abstract landscapes, nudes, animals, and the feminine form, she merges expressive brushwork with bold contrasts in light and color to evoke movement, energy, and emotion.

Inspired by artists such as Brett Whiteley, Hilma af Klint, Alphonse Mucha and Jessie Beard, Celia’s work embraces fluidity, symbolism, and expressive linework. Her paintings reflect a fascination with organic forms—where the land, body, and spirit intertwine.

She studied Fine Art and Design at Forster TAFE and the Enmore Design Centre, developing a distinctive style that balances abstraction with delicate yet powerful compositions. Her work has been exhibited at Gosford Regional Gallery and Manning Regional Gallery and Theia Studios Woy Woy.

Being brought up within a generation of strong female artists, her art practice connects her to her family lineage, with both her grandmothers being skilled artists and crafts woman, as well as Aunties, Cousins and her mother Sharon Tudor Smith well known for her free expressive coastal landscapes.

Practising painting and drawing has been a huge part of her upbring, sense of self and the culture of her family.
Continuing to push the boundaries of abstraction, Celia creates immersive works that invite the viewer to connect with the raw beauty of the natural world and drop into their emotions.
